The Intro to Circuits Kit is the starting point. It holds the rechargeable battery, the core circuit blocks and printed instructions for six builds, all in a carry case with a foam insert.

One thing worth knowing before you open it
The kit ships 20 or so loose bricks, which is enough for the six official builds. It is not enough to invent much beyond them. Almost every family uses their own brick collection from there, and that is how the kit is meant to work. If you have no bricks at all in the house, expect to want some.
What it does not include
No transistors, capacitors, resistors, gearbox motors or remote control. Those are in the Expansion Kit.
