What will my kids learn?
How circuits actually work. When your child connects a switch, a light block, and a battery, they're building a real working circuit. They can see why it works, not just watch it happen.
They also get a lot of practice failing. There's no one right build with SparkBlocks, so kids have to try things, watch them not work, and figure out why. That back-and-forth builds the same spatial thinking and cause-and-effect reasoning that show up later in math and engineering.
The Intro to Circuits Kit covers the basics, and the same blocks work in progressively more complex builds as kids get older. It doesn't have a ceiling.
Why does this cost more than other toys?
SparkBlocks aren't a typical STEM toy you use once and shelve. The Intro Kit includes real electronic components (rechargeable battery, motor, LEDs, speaker, switches) plus building bricks, with a printed Learning Guide, and instructions for 6 themed builds. I bought both the Spark Blocks Intro Kit and the Advanced Kit for my kids, and they have been some of the best STEM purchases we’ve made. As an engineer, I value that they teach real demonstratable topics instead of just keeping kids busy. The Intro Kit was easy for my kids to start using, and the Advanced Kit let my kids imagination run wild. The instructions were clear and even the video stuff we watched, and it was great to see the concepts click with my kids. Our household is pretty busy, so I also liked that everything was organized and didn’t need a large time commitment to get started. If you’re looking for a hands-on STEM activity that really makes kids think and create, I would definitely recommend both kits.
Oh btw my kids are between 5-10 so there was a bit of hand holding fr me with the younger but eventually my older kid started leading and they were playing together and were to engrossed in learning for any arguments which was nice 😆
These aren't something I would leave alone without supervision with my youngest but comfortable doing so with my older kid. Though these things look to built with safety in mind which is great.

Also appreciate the honest note on age range: younger builders often do best with some help, while older kids can usually start taking the lead once they get the circuit logic.

We got the adavanced set of sparksblocks for Christmas. My son has enjoyed adding lights and sounds to his Lego builds. It has been fun to see him learn about circuits while adding fun features to his Lego creations.

I found 2 switches in the original shipment that were not working consistently, and SparkBlocks immediately sent me replacements (2 switches) and also 2 1x3 wire blocks just in case the ones I used in my circuits to show the problematic switches were also not working.

My 11 year old son as well as grown ups have seemed very interested in the kits. I was surprised that the introductory kit didn't come with a charger block. I was also surprised that the advanced kit didn't come with one more battery - I wish you would sell just the battery alone so that we don't have to break down our projects to start new ones. The reason why I bought this is so we can continue to build using our existing lego sets, but one battery is very limiting and I don't want to spend over $100 just so I can get more batteries. You need to sell just the battery!!! and ideally, if we just want certain items (like sensors or switches), you should sell those individually so we can add on to our kits.
