The 6-legged Walking Ant is a self-contained SparkBlocks project kit that lets kids (and curious adults) build a motorized insect using real electronic components. No screens, no soldering, just build & play.

It’s the perfect way to explore mechanical motion, circuits, and creative engineering, all in a fun, fast build that feels like magic when it crawls across the table!

Important note

This is an add-on build. To complete this build, you’ll need your Intro to Circuits Kit, including the Battery Block and core circuit pieces (wire connectors, switches, and other basics).

    Coolest Ant

    My 9 year old son was able to follow the directions and build the ant himself. The instruction were well written with good diagrams to follow. He was able to go back through the instruction to trouble-shoot shoot his build when it didnt work right off. I love all of the skills this build has taught him. He took the ant to school. His classmates loved it. When his cousin broke his build he was able to follow the plans to repair it. We love the sparkblocks kits and add-ons they are so fun and help foster learning with play.

    Hi Heather, this is so fun to see. The fact that your son could follow the plans, troubleshoot, and repair on his own is so powerful for us to read ab out! That “fix it when it breaks” confidence is real engineering.

    And take it to school?! Love this! ⚡

    An impressive toy ant brought to life by Sparkblocks!

    Some simple yet very creative mechanics makes the ant walk from the input of one motor! The battery box and various sparkblocks are well hidden inside the model.

    Here it is combined with more parts from the intro kit!

    Truly a great first experience with the Sparkblocks system!

    STEAM Club Favorite

    Purchased the Intro Kit, Expansion Kit, Mighty Machines, and Walking Ant for our STEAM Club. The students jumped right into this kit and had a blast building and troubleshooting it. They named it and even wrote a backstory for it!

    Mike, thanks for sharing this! I love that they gave it a name and a backstory - that's when it stopped being "a kit" and became their creation. (makes me wonder about my ant's backstory...)     Everyone stopped to watch!

    When this started moving, everyone in the room stopped what they were doing. My child was so proud and kept showing it off. It’s a really memorable build and easily one of the most impressive ones we’ve tried.
