Buy the Intro to Circuits Kit. It has the battery, the motor, the lights, the sound blocks, the switches and the sensors, plus printed instructions for six builds. Nothing else is needed to get going.
One builder, and you would rather not buy twice
Buy the Advanced Bundle. It is the Intro to Circuits Kit and the Expansion Kit together, which is where most families end up anyway.
Two builders in the house
Buy the Family Bundle. Two Intro to Circuits Kits and one Expansion Kit. Two batteries means two projects running at once, which is usually the thing that ends the arguing.
You already own the Intro Kit
Buy the Expansion Kit. It adds transistors, capacitors, resistors, two gearbox motors, a remote control block and four more builds. It is designed to sit on top of the Intro Kit, not replace it.
Your child wants a specific model
The Theme Builds are the fire truck, the patrol car, the walking ant and the 3-in-1 Mighty Machines set. Each one is an add-on. It ships the bricks and the motor for that model and no power source, so you need a Circuits Kit as well. Read What do I need to run a Theme Build? before you buy one on its own.
You want the lot
The Ultimate Theme Bundle is all four Theme Builds, and it still needs a Circuits Kit alongside it. The Mega Builder Bundle is the only product that covers everything at once: two Intro Kits, an Expansion Kit, all four Theme Builds and two spare power packs.
