Customs, duties and import taxes

If your order crosses a border to reach you, your country may charge duty or import tax on it. That charge comes from your government, not from us, and we cannot tell you in advance what it will be.

Our shipping policy puts it in one line: "Local customs fees or import taxes may apply. These are the responsibility of the buyer and vary by country."

Why we cannot quote you a number

Duty and import tax are set by the country the parcel is arriving in. What you pay depends on the category the goods fall into, the declared value, your country's own thresholds and exemptions, and sometimes a handling fee the carrier adds for doing the paperwork. Those rules differ everywhere and they change. We have no reliable way to work out what your customs authority will do with a particular parcel, so we do not guess, and we would be careful of anyone who does.

How you will be asked to pay

Usually the carrier contacts you before delivery, by email or text, with a link to pay. Sometimes the driver collects at the door instead. Every carrier does it a little differently.

Pay it when you are asked. A parcel with charges outstanding is held at a depot and, after a set number of days, sent back rather than delivered. Getting an international parcel out of that process again is slow.

This is separate from what you paid at checkout

The shipping rate you paid covers carriage only. Duty and import tax are charged on top by your own country. See Shipping costs and free shipping.

If you ordered from the EU or the UK

A few of our other rules work differently for you. If you ordered from the EU or the UK has them all in one place.

Something looks wrong on the charge

If the amount you have been asked for looks wrong, or the paperwork on the parcel does not match your order, email us at Info@SparkBlocks.ca with your order number and a photo of the notice. We cannot remove a customs charge, but we can correct our own paperwork and give you something to take back to the carrier.

If not, tell us what is happening and include your order number if you have one. A photo or a short video gets you an answer in one reply instead of four.
